National Smile Month-Shrewsbury Orthodontic Centre's presentation to Oak Meadow Pupils

National Smile month takes place between 16 may and 16 June.  Leanne and Karen, members of our tream, on June 8th 2017 presented an educational interative discussion to over 80 pupils at Oak Meadow Primary school, covering the 3 key messages:

  1. Brush your teeth last thing at night and at least one other occasion with fluoride toothpaste
  2. Cut down on how often you have sugery foods and drinks
  3. Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend

We played our part in raising awareness about important health issues, making a positive difference to pupils about their oral health.

Almost all dental health problems are preventable and this is what National Smile Month and the team are trying to draw attention to and promote through positive messages and education.

We highlighted the devastating effect sugar can have on the pupils oral health and be conscious to how often they are comsuming it.

Change4Life was also discussed, 'rethink your drink', showing the pupils how much sugar are in popular drinks and alternative snack choices which contain less salt, sugar and saturated fats which are healthier and hopefully prevent nasty diseases developing in later life.

Toothbrushing APP's were discussed to assist with brushing for two minutes, while listening to their favourite song (Brush DJ- a free APP to download on most devices).

The talk was very interative and very positive response feedback was given by both pupils and teachers.

Thank you to Oak Meadow Primary School.

Results from our December 2015 Dog Trust and Hope House Charity Event

During December we held a charity event to raise money for Hope House and The Dogs Trust.

We offered patients a choice of colours on their brace for a small donation to one or both of the charities.

A representative from both of our choosen charities, The Dog Trust and Hope House, collected the monies, totalling £186.49.

Mr Chadwick and his team would like to thank everyone who participated.

We have been awarded membership of the British Dental Association Good Practice Scheme

The Centre has been open for 7 years and had a NHS contract to accept referrals from local dentists in April 2009.

We are delighted to have been awarded membership again for a 7th year with the BDA Good Practice Scheme.  The award shows the standard of care given to both patients as well as the way in which the practice is managed in line with high standards set by the BDA, Department of Health and The Health and Safety Executive.  This achievement visibly shows the commitment to quality and reassures both patients and dental professionals of our commitment to best practice.

We have to continually met the 100 nationally recognized standards of practice to achieve this award.

Patient's can be assured they receive best possible quality of services and care when they visit our Centre.  The whole team is delighted to have received this national recognition.

Shrewsbury Orthodontic Centre has had a routine inspection by the Care Quality Commission on 25th February 2016 where they confirmed our committment to best practice with regard to our regulated activites and patient care.

We have recently had an annual inspection from our local primary care trust, Community Infection Prevention and Control Nurse.  The results were that Shrewsbury Orthodontic Centre were of a very high standard, 100% compliant (Best Practice).  We are delighted with our achievements and the standards that are kept.

Karen acheived her L4 Dental Practice Management Qualification earlier this year.  Below is Mr Chadwick formally presenting Karen with her well earned award.

The Centre continually monitors and educates their patients on the importance of plaque free teeth, this is to avoid the risk of damage to teeth and gums during treatment.
